Sammy Osmond is a graduate student in Appalachian Studies at Appalachian State University in his home town of Boone, North Carolina and a graduate from Wesleyan University's film studies program with a focus on documentary studies. Most recently, he's completed a documentary about the evolution of his home into a "football town" in recent years. Along with his studies, He is a South Arts "In These Mountains" Fellow, a position which enables him to travel the region conducting dozens of interviews with Appalachian artists and tradition-bearers for archival purposes.
In addition, he has previously worked as a researcher and location scout for the Peabody Award-winning documentary production company The Film Posse under the guidance of award-winning filmmakers Tracy Heather Strain and Randall MacLowry.
Sammy is seeking new opportunities to capture and amplify the beautiful stories that make up the lived experiences of exceptional people. You can find him striking up a conversation with anyone he meets while playing banjo on his front porch in downtown Boone.
